Welcome to Folkjam, the World Wide Jam Session Network

In the old days, you just had to know somebody who knows somebody. Now you can find every jam session in the world, and still not need to know anyone! This community site provides information on acoustic Bluegrass, Old-Time, Irish and fiddle jams.

Features of this online resource include:
Jam session locator. Find local, national, or worldwide jam sessions that have been listed on the site. Define a radius of miles around a particular city and view a list of all sessions in the area. Also very conveniently viewable in a calendar format. Another feature lets you create a flyer of the jam list to print and handout at your next event. Other listings include: single session jams,  music camps, workshops, and festivals.

To enter a listing requires a free registration process. The entries on the site are contributed and maintained entirely by the musicians from the local communities that come together to play music.

In addition to the event listings, folkjam.org also offers a directory of Groups for musicians who want to join and keep each other posted on their happenings, and a Forum, where subjects from Tune lists, to session etiquette can be completely discussed ad infinitum.

Always remember, "Play well with others."

Morgantown is an Old Time party town

I recently visited the Wednesday night Old Time jam at the West Virginia Brewing Co. restaurant and microbrewery (Brew Pub) in Morgantown. I hadn't been there in a long time, so after talking to a friend who reminded me that it was still

Rachel Eddy

going strong after all these years, I decided to stop in. Of course that happened to be the night my friend wasn't there, but I did see a few familiar faces, and of course Rachel Eddy was leading the bunch. Some of her bandmates were also there, providing a solid core group who kept things rolling with tunes and songs they knew well, always a key ingredient to any good open jam session.

I rate this jam with a full five stars for the ambience alone. The space available to the musicians was copious, and convenient (i.e. people didn't have to walk between the musicians to get from the bar to the restrooms) yet, there were plenty of tables around for the listening public, as well as pool tables where folks could do something else cool.

I applaud Rachel and the rest of the Mo'town regulars who have kept the tunes going all these years. I'm sure going back again. :8^{>~
